Detail levels explained
Every clay object has a detail level: how finely its clay is stored. Choose it in File › New, when importing, or per object.
| Level | Smallest detail | Memory | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Draft | 2.1 mm | Very low | Fast blocking, big simple shapes |
| Standard | 1.6 mm | Low | Props, first sculpts, most prints |
| Fine | 1.0 mm | Moderate | Figures and faces at hand size |
| Ultra | 0.8 mm | High; best with 16 GB | Detailed busts and creatures |
| Studio | 0.4 mm | Very high; best with 32 GB | Miniatures, jewellery, faces |
Choosing
Section titled “Choosing”- Pick the coarsest level that holds the detail you need. Coarser clay sculpts faster and blends more easily.
- Different objects can have different levels: a Studio face on a Standard body.
- Small brushes stay crisp at every level: Add, Carve and Shape blend over a fifth of the brush size.
- For anything finer than Studio, or for very large sculpts with fine surface detail, add a detail mesh instead of going finer.
